Jamie Pettiette Rhone, owner of Jamie's Therapeutic Touch in Palestine, makes it a goal to offer the latest most innovative spa and or health treatments available to her clients. She continues that practice by bringing ever-popular Ionithermie treatments to her day spa - one that has been featured in many popular women's magazines and is the only treatment of its kind available in East Texas. Rhone was introduced to the electrode-clay cellulite reducing therapy treatment while on a recent cruise. "I liked Ionithermie so much I decided to purchase the treatment for Therapeutic Touch," she said.
Ionithermie began in France in 1979 and only in the past several years has made its way into the United States. The treatment is considered one of the most effective non-invasive ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite and toning of the skin.
The treatment uses electrical stimuli, thermal clay and algae to boost metabolism and tone muscles. To begin the treatment, the therapist measures in five different places marking the areas so they can be measured and compared afterwards. Lying on the therapy bed, the recipient is covered with gauze cloths and then the clay and algae mix are applied to the focal areas. "We can target certain areas of the body or treat the entire body," Rhone said. "There are three different kinds of facial treatments we can do." Electrodes are then placed in specific areas of the body and stimuli are activated that propel the active ingredients into the skin and tone the muscles. "It is like doing 300 sit ups in 30 minutes," Rhone said. At the conclusion of the treatment, clay and electrodes are removed and the person is re-measured to determine inch loss.
The benefits of the treatment are numerous. Besides reducing cellulite and toning muscle, the treatment detoxifies the body and boosts the metabolism. It also improves circulation, aids in fluid retention and waste removal, improves skin hydration and elasticity, relieves muscles aches and pains and generates an overall feeling of well-being.
"It is a good way to kick start a weight loss and exercise program," Rhone said. "It makes you feel good about yourself." Results of the treatment are permanent and continue for up to 48 hours after the treatment, but must be maintained by drinking lots of water and keeping a healthy diet and exercise regimen. "From five to up to 20 treatments are recommended, depending on individual needs," Rhone said. Palestine's Jodi Tolar, a regular recipient of Ionithermie, has lost more than 10 inches using the treatment. "It feels like I am tightening my muscles on a leg press, plus squats and lunges all in one," Tolar said. "It's like getting a great workout without doing anything." "One of the things I like the most is that I see immediate results," she added. "Not only can I feel the difference, I can see it as well."
There are certain individuals who should not receive Ionithermie treatments, including: women with suspected or confirmed pregnancy, women who have been nursing for less than 12 weeks, those with metal pins and plates, those with pacemakers or heart conditions, those who have had major surgery in the last three months, those with epilepsy, thrombosis, kidney or liver disorders, those with IUD coils or those who have been diagnosed with cancer. "This is a treatment that benefits everyone - male or female, old or young, thin or overweight," Rhone said. "It reaches the cellular level and is a non-invasive and non surgical way to be healthy."
