Jamie Pettiette Rhone, owner of Jamie's Therapeutic Touch in Palestine, makes it a goal to offer the latest most innovative spa and or health treatments available to her clients. She continues that practice by bringing ever-popular Ionithermie treatments to her day spa - one that has been featured in many popular women's magazines and is the only treatment of its kind available in East Texas. Rhone was introduced to the electrode-clay cellulite reducing therapy treatment while on a recent cruise. "I liked Ionithermie so much I decided to purchase the treatment for Therapeutic Touch," she said.

Ionithermie began in France in 1979 and only in the past several years has made its way into the United States. The treatment is considered one of the most effective non-invasive ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite and toning of the skin.

The treatment uses electrical stimuli, thermal clay and algae to boost metabolism and tone muscles. To begin the treatment, the therapist measures in five different places marking the areas so they can be measured and compared afterwards. Lying on the therapy bed, the recipient is covered with gauze cloths and then the clay and algae mix are applied to the focal areas. "We can target certain areas of the body or treat the entire body," Rhone said. "There are three different kinds of facial treatments we can do." Electrodes are then placed in specific areas of the body and stimuli are activated that propel the active ingredients into the skin and tone the muscles. "It is like doing 300 sit ups in 30 minutes," Rhone said. At the conclusion of the treatment, clay and electrodes are removed and the person is re-measured to determine inch loss.

The benefits of the treatment are numerous. Besides reducing cellulite and toning muscle, the treatment detoxifies the body and boosts the metabolism. It also improves circulation, aids in fluid retention and waste removal, improves skin hydration and elasticity, relieves muscles aches and pains and generates an overall feeling of well-being.

"It is a good way to kick start a weight loss and exercise program," Rhone said. "It makes you feel good about yourself." Results of the treatment are permanent and continue for up to 48 hours after the treatment, but must be maintained by drinking lots of water and keeping a healthy diet and exercise regimen. "From five to up to 20 treatments are recommended, depending on individual needs," Rhone said. Palestine's Jodi Tolar, a regular recipient of Ionithermie, has lost more than 10 inches using the treatment. "It feels like I am tightening my muscles on a leg press, plus squats and lunges all in one," Tolar said. "It's like getting a great workout without doing anything." "One of the things I like the most is that I see immediate results," she added. "Not only can I feel the difference, I can see it as well."

There are certain individuals who should not receive Ionithermie treatments, including: women with suspected or confirmed pregnancy, women who have been nursing for less than 12 weeks, those with metal pins and plates, those with pacemakers or heart conditions, those who have had major surgery in the last three months, those with epilepsy, thrombosis, kidney or liver disorders, those with IUD coils or those who have been diagnosed with cancer. "This is a treatment that benefits everyone - male or female, old or young, thin or overweight," Rhone said. "It reaches the cellular level and is a non-invasive and non surgical way to be healthy."

Expanding business
Jamie's Therapeutic Touch now offering day spa activitiesBy MARY RAINWATERThe Palestine Herald
Palestine — When she opened Jamie’s Therapeutic Touch two years ago, local aesthetician Jamie Pettiette-Rhone had already set a goal of expanding her business to become Palestine’s first day spa.Her dream was made a reality in January of this year when Rhone relocated her business from its former Mallard Street spot to its new location at 720 W. Palestine Ave, and now to 1730 Crockett Rd. It has been my goal since I opened to have a day spa here in Palestine,” Rhone said. “I wanted to provide people with a quiet, stress-free environment where they could relax and feel pampered.”She also added to her new location four new employees, each with a different skill to contribute to the day spa — a cosmetologist, a nail technician, and two massage therapists.Palestine native Rockee Hamilton has joined Jamie’s Therapeutic touch as a nail technician. She will be providing manicures, pedicures, acrylic nails and fabric wraps for customers.“This is the only place in town that is a full-service day spa and I wanted to be part of it,” Hamilton said. “So far it has been fun — there are many good people here.”Recent Trinity Valley Community College Cosmetology School graduate Christine Pennington serves as the business’ hair stylist, providing haircuts, styling, color and any other desired hair treatment.“I have had a really great experience here so far,” Pennington said. “I think it will be very convenient for clients to offer all of these services in one location.”Dianne Gutierrez is one of two massage therapists that joined Rhone at her new location in January. She specializes in Jin Shin massage, a Japanese art that uses accupressure to induce relaxation and bring balance to all parts of the body.“I received training at traveling workshops held in Hawaii, California, Europe and Colorado,” Gutierrez said. “I have been working in Dallas for 18 years before coming to Palestine to care for my dad.“I have really enjoyed working here so far and hope to be able to help others by sharing Jin Shin with them,” she added. “It is an ancient Japanese art that was passed down by word of mouth and helps the body heal itself.”In addition to standard Swedish massages, Cheryl James provides several services to customers that visit Jamie’s. A licensed massage therapist, she offers oriental footbaths, paraffin wax and ear candles.“I work a lot with the essential oils, which help with relaxation and issues such as headaches and congestion,” she said. “The benefits of massage are endless — it lowers blood pressure and detoxifies the body.“It is a lot of fun being here at Jamie’s,” James added. “There is a really good atmosphere with and lots of good energy in the group (Rhone) has put together here.”Rhone provides facials, skin treatments, Ionithermie, body wraps and waxing. She offers day spa packages for wedding parties, couples and those who just want to get together with friends and has accommodations for those who wish to stay overnight.“There is no where else around here to get pampered,” Rhone said. “I just wanted to create a great place for people to relax, get away and experience healing — body, mind and soul.”Rhone is celebrating her business’ relocation and expansion with a grand opening and open house event from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.“Everyone is invited to come out, meet the new employees and tour the facilities,” Rhone said. “I will have reps from Glominerals and Dermalogica here to do makeovers and skin scanning.”Refreshments, an abundance of giveaways and free face mapping also will take place at the event as well as a live remote by KYYK radio station. Day spa continues growth with move to new location
Starting out in 2004 as a “one-woman” operation in an old 8×12 file room, Palestine native Jamie Pettiette-Rhone began achieving her dream of bringing a state-of-the-art day spa to her home town.
Just one year later, Rhone expanded Jamie’s Therapeutic Touch for the first time to include an additional room and a secretary. After another 18 months, she purchased a building on Palestine Avenue — adding two massage therapists, a nail tech and hair dressers.
And now, just three years after her last expansion, Rhone has upgraded again to a 2,000-square-foot building on Crockett Road that includes eight treatment rooms housing six massage therapists, three estheticians (skin care therapists) and two nail technicians.
“I started with nothing and I feel like we have almost everything now,” Rhone said in a recent interview. “When I started, I didn’t have any clients and didn’t know if I make it or not, but I jumped in it with both feet forward and have never looked back.
“I can’t believe that was almost five years ago — time has flown by so fast, and I love every minute of it.”
Along with the growth of her facilities and staff, the services offered at Jamie’s Therapeutic Touch also have expanded profoundly since opening.
“When I first started I just did a basic facial, microdermabrasion and weight loss body wraps,” she said. “Now we offer a variety of facials, peels, wraps and massages and provide treatments like Lamprobe, AquaDetox and Ionithermie.”
Permanent make-up, manicures and pedicures, spray-tanning and product lines such as Dermalogica (skin care), Jane-Iredale (make-up) and Tahitian Noni are also offered at Jamie’s.
“We are always looking for the next greatest and best thing to offer our clients,” Rhone said. “All of our therapists are licensed in their fields and we encourage continued education.
“We are always attending trade shows, and seminars to be able to stay on top of the ever changing market.”
With their expanded facility, the local day spa is now better able to accommodate small groups for parties, ‘girls night out’ events, children’s birthday spa parties and bridal parties for the bride and her whole bridal party.
“We can get the bride’s face and body ready for her big day to make it less stressful,” Rhone said. “We offer couples treatments and spa packages that range from two hours to eight hours at the spa with lunch and champagne provided.”
Rhone’s plans for growing her business are not quite complete, she said, as an expansion to her new building is already in the works.
“Right now our five hair dressers are still operating at the Palestine Avenue location,” she said. “We will be adding space for the hair dressers and another treatment room as well.”
Rhone cannot take all the credit for her success, though. Without her loyal and always-growing customer base, none of the dreams she has achieved for the spa would have been possible, she said.
“We have a wonderful client base that we are blessed to have as our clients and friends,” she said. “Some of my clients have been with me the whole five years in business, which I thank God for everyday.
“Palestine has everything to offer that the bigger towns have, and we strive to always bring them the best service possible,” she added. “I just want to give back what God has blessed me with.”
Jamie’s Therapeutic Touch, is holding a holiday open house Dec. 12 and 13. The public is invited to tour the spa, meet Rhone and her staff and enjoy a selection of desserts, champagne and coffee.
Dermalogica educators will be available to answer questions and we will offer microzone and skinbar treatments,” Rhone said. “A Jane-Iredale make-up artist will be demonstrating the latest looks; and we also will offer hand and arm massage.”
Therapists at Jamie’s include: Kathy Klauser, licensed medical massage therapist; Christine Pennington, nail technician and licensed massage therapist; Monika Comancho, licensed massage therapist; Amy Gordon, esthetician; Diane Wakeland, esthetician; Jolonda Freeman, permanent make-up artist;
